We replaced a long lost front porch on this Port Hope house.
Sadly, front porches are often endangered species on vintage houses. Without proper upkeep, they are often the first things to go as structures succumb to rot and neglect.
That was the case on this Port Hope house located on one of the most beautiful, tree-lined streets. An earlier “modernization”
had removed the porch and replaced it with a small front stoop with a matching “portico”. A portion of the side porch was still present but this needed replacing as well. It was nice, but not what the building was designed to have originally.
Our job was to put things back the way they used to be!
We added back a whole lot of original charm, not to mention good, usable summer living space, that’s a credit to the homeowner, the house itself, and the local streetscape!

We received an award from the Port Hope Architectural Conservancy for the work we did on the porch below. We had to completely re-create it from an old black and white photo.
